When it comes to fashion, it should be viewed as another one of the many ways you can show your personality by incorporating it into your everyday style. Oftentimes, it’s perceived as this specialized skill that only the creatively inclined possess, but this isn't the case. Use your clothes as an opportunity to sharpen your artistic eye and think outside the box. Step out of your comfort zone by mixing and matching in ways that you might not have thought of before. I know, easier said than done, but I'll show you how to approach this step-by-step, as well as how to play with your styled garments to create a wardrobe that compliments your taste and leaves you feeling remarkable.
Step 1: Build a closet that reflects your personality and moods.
The first step in defining your wardrobe is to answer this question. What colors do you find yourself drawn towards the most? Do you prefer to dress in neutrals like greys, whites, and creams? Do you like a bolder, more colorful style? Keep in mind that, whatever your response, the color wheel, or "ROYGBIV," is a useful tool to use if you're having trouble arranging colors together that blend seamlessly.
Step 2: Be cognizant of the different cuts, patterns, and fabrics of the products you’re purchasing.
It's not only about matching shades or splashes of color; the material also plays a key role. Experimenting with different textures is an important aspect of elevating your style. Let's say you have a lot of cotton and denim fabric on hand; these are the most basic textures that go with anything. Try going for some leather or suede pieces. Next time you go shopping, add a little flair to your basics and develop from there. Similar to this is playing with print (and I don’t mean just leopard or zebra). Think graphic or abstract designs that catch your eye!
Step 3: Accessorize. Accessorize. Accessorize.
This step may seem obvious, but accessorizing your outfits enhances your style by increasing the number of layers that link everything together. Prioritize adding jackets, hats, belts, necklaces, stockings, and boots to your closet once you've mastered casual wear consisting of the standard t-shirt and pants pairing.
Don’t only look at an item as it’s advertised; instead, get imaginative and consider clothing and its accessories as multifaceted because that’s exactly what they are. Do you have an old scarf stuffed in your dresser that you’re bored of? Transform it into a makeshift bandeau top, headscarf, or drape it softly across your arms to wear as a shawl! Encourage yourself to deviate from the conventional norm and sharpen your personal sense of style!
